Why You Want Wedding Planners Who Have a Life

The wedding industry often glorifies burnout. Long hours. No boundaries. Being available at all times. Somewhere along the way, exhaustion became synonymous with dedication — and that narrative has done a disservice to couples and planners alike. At Godoy Events, we believe something different: The best wedding planners are people who have full, rich lives outside of weddings. Not in spite of their personal passions — but because of them. A Philosophy Rooted in Sustainability Weddings are emotional, high-stakes environments. They require clarity, presence, empathy, and strong decision-making — especially when things don’t go exactly as planned. Planners who are rested, fulfilled, and creatively nourished are better equipped to: Stay calm under pressure Solve problems without panic Communicate clearly with clients and vendors Hold space for emotion without absorbing it Burnout doesn’t make someone more committed. It makes them reactive. And couples deserve professionals who can show up grounded and clear-headed. Multi-Hyphenate Women Bring Broader Perspective The Godoy Events team is made up of multi-talented, multi-hyphenate women — and that is by design. Our team includes: Dancers and cultural practitioners Writers and public speakers Actors, directors, and creatives Entrepreneurs and leaders Mothers, mentors, and community builders These experiences sharpen skills that directly translate to weddings: Reading a room Managing timelines intuitively Leading with empathy Balancing creativity with structure When planners bring full lives into their work, weddings benefit from that depth. Boundaries Create Better Client Experiences Having a life outside of weddings doesn’t mean caring less — it means caring well. Clear boundaries allow us to: Be fully present during meetings and wedding days Communicate expectations clearly Avoid rushed decisions or overlooked details Protect the quality of every event we take on We don’t overbook. We don’t glorify chaos. And we don’t believe availability equals excellence. Instead, we prioritize thoughtful planning, realistic timelines, and systems that support both our team and our clients. A Gentle Reframing of the Industry This isn’t a critique of hard work — weddings demand dedication. But hustle culture has quietly convinced couples that exhausted planners are the most committed ones. In reality, the opposite is often true. A planner with a full life brings: Perspective Emotional regulation Creativity Longevity in the industry Those qualities directly impact your wedding experience. What This Means for Our Couples When you work with Godoy Events, you’re working with a team that: Is energized, not depleted Values clarity over chaos Brings calm leadership into complex moments Has the capacity to truly care about your experience We plan weddings in San Diego and Hawaiʻi, often in destination settings where trust and adaptability matter even more. Our lives outside of weddings don’t distract from this work — they strengthen it. Planning With People Who Are Whole Your wedding deserves professionals who are present, grounded, and invested — not running on fumes. If you’re looking for a planning team that values intention, sustainability, and thoughtful leadership: Book a consultation to learn more about working with Godoy Events. Because planning a meaningful celebration starts with people who are well-supported themselves.

Our Partnership with Victoria Ranch & Chef Joann

The strongest events are built on trust — between couples, planners, venues, and the creative partners who bring a vision to life. Our partnership with Victoria Ranch and Chef Joann is rooted in exactly that: shared values, intentional collaboration, and a commitment to creating experiences where people feel genuinely cared for. This partnership didn’t happen overnight. It grew naturally, through years of working together, mutual respect, and a shared belief that hospitality should feel thoughtful, warm, and seamless. How This Partnership Began Alana first worked with Chef Joann long before the launch of Godoy Events. Over the years, they collaborated on multiple weddings and events, building trust through consistency, communication, and a shared eye for experience. At a recent event, they reconnected and intentionally sat down to talk — not just about individual projects, but about the future. Their goals, values, and visions for their respective businesses aligned naturally. That conversation became the foundation for a deeper partnership — one centered on care, collaboration, and long-term growth. What Makes Victoria Ranch So Incredible Victoria Ranch is a stunning private estate venue where every detail has been selected with intention. From the layout of the property to the flow of events throughout the day, the space is designed to feel: Comfortable and welcoming Elevated without feeling rigid Thoughtful rather than overproduced It is the kind of venue where guests can truly settle in — and where couples can feel supported rather than managed. This intentionality makes Victoria Ranch especially well-suited for private estate weddings and intimate celebrations, where experience matters just as much as aesthetics. Chef Joann’s Approach to Cuisine Chef Joann’s cuisine reflects the same values that guide our planning philosophy. Her menus are: Fresh and locally sourced whenever possible Intentionally curated rather than excessive Grounded in flavor, seasonality, and care Food is often one of the most memorable elements of a wedding day — and Chef Joann understands how to create meals that feel personal, nourishing, and deeply satisfying. A Shared Vision for Guest Experience What makes this partnership truly special is how seamlessly our teams work together. With Godoy Events handling planning and coordination, Victoria Ranch providing a thoughtfully designed setting, and Chef Joann leading the culinary experience, couples are supported from every angle. This collaboration allows for: Clear communication across teams Streamlined logistics A calm, cohesive planning process A guest experience that feels warm and effortless For couples, this means fewer moving parts — and more space to enjoy the celebration. Our Role: In-House Coordination at Victoria Ranch While this partnership functions as a preferred vendor relationship, Godoy Events offers an exclusive in-house coordination experience for events hosted at Victoria Ranch. This ensures: A planner who deeply understands the property Seamless collaboration with the venue and culinary team Proactive problem-solving throughout the planning process A wedding day that unfolds smoothly and intentionally This structure allows couples to feel fully supported without navigating multiple layers of communication. A Natural Fit for Private Estate Weddings Victoria Ranch, Chef Joann, and Godoy Events share a belief that weddings should feel: Intentional Well-paced Guest-centered Calm and well-led This partnership is ideal for couples planning private estate weddings, intimate celebrations, and gatherings where hospitality and experience take priority. Let’s Plan Something Thoughtful If you’re considering a wedding or private event at Victoria Ranch — or are drawn to celebrations rooted in care, collaboration, and intention — we would love to connect. Our Move to O‘ahu: Kuleana, Culture, and Coming Home

For as long as I can remember, Hawaiʻi has felt like home — even when I wasn’t physically there. I was born on the mainland, but the pull back to Hawaiʻi was always present. It showed up in quiet ways and loud ones: in the music I gravitated toward, the way movement felt like prayer, the way I learned to lead with respect, humility, and heart. I stayed rooted in my culture through Polynesian dancing, performance, and community — not as a hobby, but as a responsibility. From a young age, I had the incredible opportunity to perform around the world, dancing with Kaleo Onalani and Pride of Polynesia, and even being a friend of Moana at the El Capitan Theatre. In 2021, I was honored to serve as Miss Pacific Islander of San Diego, an experience that deepened my commitment to culture, leadership, and community. In Hawaiian culture, we call this kuleana: a deep sense of responsibility to care for what has been entrusted to you. For me, that kuleana is cultural, familial, and now — professional. A Connection to Oʻahu That Runs Generations Deep Oʻahu has always been the island that feels most like home. My grandmother was from Waimānalo, and through her, I learned what aloha truly means — not the version packaged for visitors, but the lived, everyday practice of care, respect, humor, and resilience. She passed shortly after my 18th birthday, but her presence is still very real in my life and work. She raised me with the unshakable belief that I could do anything and everything. She taught me how to carry myself with respect, how to welcome people fully, and how to feed everyone who walked through the door — usually with poi, raw fish, and a lot of laughter. She also had a cheeky sense of humor, and that balance of warmth and honesty continues to shape how I lead Godoy Events today. Moving to Oʻahu is not a trend-driven business decision for us. It is a return — and a responsibility — to honor where I come from while building something intentional for the future. Why Godoy Events Is Expanding to Hawaiʻi Godoy Events began in San Diego, and that community will always be home to our brand. San Diego remains our primary market, and we continue to serve couples there with full-service planning, partial planning, and coordination. Expanding to Hawaiʻi allows us to: Serve couples who want a destination wedding in Hawaiʻi that is culturally respectful and well-supported Offer planning and coordination that understands both mainland expectations and local realities Build meaningful relationships with Hawaiʻi-based venues and vendors Create space for micro-weddings and intimate celebrations that prioritize presence, connection, and care We are not here to replicate a mainland wedding in paradise. We are here to help couples celebrate in a way that honors the ʻāina, the people, and the significance of gathering in Hawaiʻi. Planning With Cultural Awareness and Care Whether you’re planning a destination wedding, a micro-wedding, or an intimate elopement-style celebration, Hawaiʻi deserves to be approached with intention. That means understanding: Permits and regulations for beaches and public land Vendor minimums and logistical realities unique to the islands Cultural considerations that go far beyond aesthetics As a kanaka, I hold deep respect for what it means to host events on this land. Our team works closely with local professionals to ensure celebrations feel thoughtful, seamless, and aligned — not extractive or performative. A Team Built on Values, Not Burnout Our move to Oʻahu also reflects how we build our company: intentionally. Godoy Events is made up of multi-talented, multi-hyphenate women who bring full, vibrant lives into this work. We believe planners who are grounded, fulfilled, and creatively nourished show up better — for our clients and our partners. That philosophy carries into Hawaiʻi. We are here to build long-term relationships, not quick wins. To collaborate, not dominate. To plan weddings that feel good — not just look good. Looking Ahead Our expansion to Hawaiʻi is just the beginning. We are actively touring venues on Oʻahu, deepening relationships with local vendors, and sharing resources for couples considering Hawaiʻi as their wedding destination. If you’re planning a wedding in San Diego, Oʻahu, or anywhere in between — we would love to connect. Book a consultation to learn more about our planning and coordination services in San Diego and Hawaiʻi. This work is personal. It always has been. And returning home — with intention — feels like exactly where we’re meant to be. Image #1 Image #2
