A planning process as enchanting as your special day.
A planning process as enchanting as your special day.
1. What inspired you to become a wedding coordinator?
I never thought I'd be a wedding coordinator, but when I met Alana, my whole world changed. Anyone who's married to a business owner or entrepreneur can tell you that you'll get volun-told to do a lot of things you never imagined you'd do. But what really caught me by surprise was how much I appreciate the wedding industry and being part of a couple's big day. I look forward to learning about wedding trends and hearing my wife talk about our upcoming weddings.
2. How long have you been working as a wedding coordinator?
I've worked on events practically my entire life as a Polynesian entertainer and fireknife dancer, which has helped a lot in knowing how to work with vendors and clients. I started in the wedding industry two years ago at the start of Godoy Events.
3. Can you share some memorable experiences or success stories from past weddings you've coordinated?
It's always fun to dance at weddings. We had a wedding in summer 2023 where the couple wanted Alana and I to put on a quick show right after their ceremony. After they said "I do" and walked down the aisle we greeted them with a conch ceremony and started dancing a hula together. To work and dance with my wife on someone's wedding day is truly special feeling.
4. How do you handle unexpected challenges or emergencies during weddings?
I'm a quick thinker and know how to (calmly) jump into action. I'm very team oriented and know who to work with to most effectively find a solution to any problem.
5. What sets you apart from other wedding coordinators?
If you ask the team, my strength is what sets me apart. I'm the coordinator they bring to the wedding when they know there's going to be some heavy lifting or a big reception flip. But if you ask me, my energy and drive are what really sets me apart. I'm always happy to jump in and get things done.
6. What do you enjoy most about being a wedding coordinator?
Seeing the grooms cry at the ceremony and watching them interact with their new wives. There's something special about those moments and it brings back all the best memories from my own wedding.
7. What do you do for fun/ hobbies?
I love to workout, play Call of Duty, and get into work mode. I own an athletic wear line called Lifestyle Movement, so I'm almost always working on some aspect of the business when I'm not working as a physical therapy aide at Kaiser Permanente or at the gym.
8. What’s your favorite wedding aesthetic?
I've always liked the clean, modern aesthetic. Something with strong lines, lots of contrast, but with classic elements. The industrial, rustic aesthetic is also really cool and we've been seeing it a lot more often.
